Ojai Vineyard Bien Nacido Chardonnay, 2020
Adam Tolmach is at the helm of Ojai Vineyards and for the last 30 years he has been continuously honing his craft through site varietal and vinification techniques while staying loyal to his vision of making wine in a European style in California.
With the vineyard sitting on the eastern part of Santa Maria Valley the grapes receive both the warmth of the Californian sun and cool ocean breezes. This wine is packed with aromas of ripe lemon and stone fruits. On the palate you're greeted with a creamy texture and a very gentle minerality finished off with amazing freshness.
“From one of the most famous vineyards in the region, first planted in 1973. Adam Tolmach has been working with this vineyard since 1988. From a warm vintage, this is rich but shows restraint with lovely peach, pear and ripe apple fruit. It has a keen citrus core and good acidity, both of which provide a foil to the richness. There are notes of spice and nuts, with a touch of honey. It’s really long and intense in the mouth. There’s some Californian richness, but also old world structure and acidity. Lovely stuff.” 94/100 Jamie Goode, Wine Anorak
"The 2019 Chardonnay Bien Nacido Vineyard is such a classic wine from this site. Nuanced, translucent and yet so full of flavor, the 2019 dazzles from start to finish. There is a level of detail and nuance to the 2018 that is just remarkable. Scents of tangerine oil, mint, dried flowers and apricot envelop the palate as this gracious, alluring Chardonnay gradually opens in the glass. The 2019 has a bit more new oak than has been the case in the recent past. I love the precision here. In a word: sublime." 94/100 Antonio Galloni’s Vinous
Notes: Dry, Creamy, Medium Bodied
Pairings: Lobster, Lemon Sole
