Domaine Vaquer, Préface Rivesaltes Ambre Hors d'Age, 1994 (50cl)

Winner of the Concours Mondial for best Grenache, this is something truly special. Frederique Vaquer makes some of the finest examples of Rivesaltes Hors’Dage, Imaginable. This is a sweet wine, but a naturally sweet wine. Not cloying, overly sweet, or aggressive in any way shape or form. This is all about the fruit!

Pure Grenache fruit, the fermentation stopped early to preserve the natural sugars with the addition of grape spirit. Amber in colour, with a nutty nose, hints of butter, spice, florals and juicy ripe fruit from the Grenache Blanc. Rivesaltes is the region, Hors d’Age means ‘extra aged’ essentially. Very rare, unique and utterly delicious.

This would be incredible with blue cheese or tarte-tatin. One of those wines you can sip away on happily for hours and end up saying ‘I’ll never think of sweet wines in the same way again!’.
