David Bienfait, Macon Villages, 2018

£21.00

David is one of the regions most hidden gems. Producing miniscule amounts per harvest, only four wines in total. A micro artisan of true craft, in every sense, his focus and attention to detail, is our gain. Fewer than 5000 cases produced each year, total. That’s a mere 60,000 bottles…

Having inherited the estate from its previous owner, he is constantly refining his art. Picking at optimum ripeness even in the most challenging of vintages, to ensure the fruit is borderline perfection. Then using minimal intervention in the winery to ensure the flavours made in the vineyard, are not lost, but shines in every single bottle

A fruit forward yet balanced wine, plenty of freshness, good body and lovely length. There’s plenty of ‘dull’, flavourless, mass produced Macon out there. Which gives the region a bad rep. But, when done right, the fruit is rich, the body zesty and succulent, with a lightness and smoothness that makes it so enjoyable to keep coming back to.

Light enough for aperitif but with such bright plump citrus and stone fruit, you can practically put it with anything.

Notes: Dry, Zesty, Medium Bodied

Pairings: Chicken Salad, Trout
