History and Origins
Domaine Guion is a family estate created in the fifties. A pioneer, it practices organic viticulture since 1965, respecting the French charter “Nature and Progress.” After oenological studies, internships in Bordeaux and experiences as cellar master in the Loire, Stéphane took over after his father in 1994. The domaine is located in the town of Benais, North East of Bourgueil in the Loire Valley. It extends over an area of 8.5 hectares, divided into 30 plots.

Philosophy and Methods
All of Stéphane’s vines lie within the Bourgueil appellation, centred on the village of the same name, west of Tours. It is a red wine only appellation which allows only red wine made from Cabernet Franc and a little Cabernet Sauvignon. Only indigenous yeasts are used. No additives, with the exception of very low amounts of sulphur added during bottling to preserve the wine.

Intention and Production
Stéphane only uses the Cabernet Franc grape, crafting three cuvees from his aged vines which range from 35 to 80 years old: the Cuvée Domaine, the Cuvée Prestige and the Cuvée des Deux Monts. A quiet man with a serious approach and genuine intention, he prefers to simplify his approach, refining it each year to make a straight forward, no nonsense range of wines that are capable of long-term ageing. Delicious in youth, bursting with ripe fruit due to picking at optimal phenolic ripeness, laden with vibrant acid structure and crunchy tannin. Therein lies the secret, procuring everything the land provides, to make elegant, balanced and structure wines to enjoy young or old. A master craftsman, humble, intelligent and selfless in his approach, the wines a testament to his personality and character.
