Domaine Vaquer, L'Esquisse, 2018

£24.00

Frederique Vaquer, is a true force of nature.

Having studied in Beaune, Burgundy with her then husband, they retired to take over her father in-laws estate in the South of France. Sadly Bernand, Fred’s husband, passed away, and she was left to sell, or make a go of it. And we’re grateful to her that she did the latter…

Gerard Bertrand was one of the first big names to highlight the true potential of France’s southernly vineyards. Higher elevation, prone to the heat and the weather, this is not easy and not viable for commercial farming. But in the right hands, and with access to some seriously old vines, there is beauty in there hills.

Frederique crafts her old vines with majesty, and a great sense of humour! Using her years of skill and slight of hand, she crafts wines of absolute balance and beauty.

Perfumes of white fruits (peach and apricot), mango and floral notes mixed with the soils. Sublime balance, freshness, stone fruit mixed with minerality and white pepper.

I would pair this with fish dishes like lemon sole but it’s equally fantastic well chilled for aperitif.

Notes: Dry, Zesty, Medium Bodied

Pairings: Fish, Poultry, Salads
